WEEKEND INTENSIVE TRAINING PROGRAM

MAY 18TH - NOV 13TH, 2022

Original Hot Yoga Association Approved  Teacher Training

Are you passionate about your hot yoga practice and ready to take a deep dive into the postures? Are you interested in seeing the view from the podium and helping others on their hot yoga journey? We have really exciting news! This year, we are launching our first ever Original Hot Yoga Teacher Training program at Rhode Island Hot Yoga.

This course is intended for students who have a serious interest in hot yoga and a (recommended) minimum of 2 years practice experience.  (Six months minimum.) In our weekend intensives, we will work on skills and topics including: Posture Study & Analysis, Essential Yoga Anatomy, Yoga Philosophy, Medical Benefits of Hot Yoga, Scientific Literacy, Modifications and Corrections for Injuries, and Teaching an Inclusive Class. Our training will also include a series of Wednesday evening sessions focused on Professional Development, Study Skills, Yoga History, and more.

We are excited to offer this course completely IN PERSON at our beautiful new workshop facility in Providence. We believe that there is nothing more beneficial than hands-on, practical experience. Our trainees will begin delivering postures and developing their teaching skills in the very first week.

Outside of our weekend intensive modules and evening sessions, trainees will be responsible for individual study, required and recommended reading, and maintaining their personal hot yoga practice (minimum of two 90-minute classes per week, on average.) Our weekend intensive format makes the course accessible to working professionals and will give trainees a chance to study and digest the material between sessions.

Our goal is to produce confident teachers who can integrate easily into any Original Hot Yoga studio and who are ready to begin teaching as soon as they receive their certificates!

Our Teacher Training Staff
Juliana Olmstead (Lead Trainer)

Juliana is the owner and founder of Rhode Island Hot Yoga. She has been practicing the Original Hot Yoga (26x2 series) for 18 years and has taught hot yoga full time (alongside eventually running two studios) since 2010. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master’s Degree in Engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Juliana has studied extensively with many of the best yoga teachers in the business and is looking forward to sharing her knowledge with a new generation of teachers. Her goal is to develop confident, capable, and well-informed yoga teachers who will uphold our mission of making these unique hot yoga classes available and accessible to everyone who needs them.

Stephanie Barta (Assistant Trainer)

Stephanie has been practicing the Original Hot Yoga series for 10 years and teaching for 9 years. She loves continuing yoga education and has attended countless workshops and seminars on all aspects of yoga. She is also active in aerial circus arts and is a trained aerial instructor. Stephanie holds a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Master's Degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Rhode Island.

Teri Almquist (Guest Faculty)

Teri has been a certified Bikram Yoga teacher since the spring of 2005 and studio owner of Wellness Hot Yoga (formally Bikram Yoga Merrimack Valley) since 2008. She excels at mentoring teachers and is consulted by teachers and students from all corners of the globe for her expertise in healing injured bodies through yoga.

In 1991, while working in the mental health field, Teri sustained a severe spinal injury which left her unable to move her head for 13 years. In an effort to put off a seemingly inevitable surgery, Teri took her first Bikram Yoga class in April of 2004 and it changed her life forever. With a regular practice, Teri was able to regain full range of motion in her neck and avoid surgery.  She has been dedicated to sharing her knowledge of the healing power of yoga ever since.

Teri is the founder of Teach from Love and the author of The Toolbox: Tools for Teaching Bikram Yoga.
